Details
Public records
Patent and trademark filings are public by law; accessing them is legal
Database terms of service
Some databases restrict automated bulk access; check ToS
API rate limits
Patent APIs have rate limits; respect them
Data accuracy
Patent assignee data may not reflect current ownership (assignments may not be recorded)
Contact information
Patent documents rarely contain email addresses; use inventor names and companies to find contacts through other sources
Privacy
Inventor names and addresses are public record, but use them responsibly
No solicitation of inventors directly
In some jurisdictions, direct solicitation of inventors for patent-related services is restricted
Extracting Contact Information from Patent Documents
Patent and trademark documents (downloaded as PDF from USPTO, EPO or WIPO) contain assignee names, inventor names and correspondence addresses. Upload these documents to Email Extractor to extract any email addresses included in the filings. While many patent documents do not include email addresses, correspondence addresses in trademark filings and some international patent applications do include email contacts for the applicant or their representative.
