Disposable Email Addresses: How to Spot and Remove Them
On this page
Temporary inboxes and forwarding aliases differ
A disposable email service provides an address intended for temporary or limited use. Its lifetime and delivery behavior depend on the service; it does not necessarily disappear after a fixed number of minutes.
A forwarding alias can also look random while routing to a real person's chosen mailbox. Apple's Hide My Email documentation describes private relay addresses used with Sign in with Apple. A plus-tagged address or privacy alias is not automatically an unusable temporary inbox.
Extraction does not classify the address
Email Extractor finds email patterns. It does not maintain a disposable-domain database or confirm that a mailbox works. The domain filters let you review or exclude chosen domains from displayed results; they do not label them as disposable.
A known temporary domain, an unfamiliar provider and a company-owned domain require different evidence. A domain without a visible website may still receive mail. Do not infer disposal from a failed webpage load or an unfamiliar name.
Use domain lists as review signals
Community-maintained lists can help flag domains for review. One example is the disposable-email-domains repository. Check its current scope, maintenance history, license and allowlist before using it in your own workflow.
Any list can have missing entries or false positives. Keep the list version and review date if a classification affects which records you retain. A match is a reason to inspect the source, not proof of the user's intent or the current mailbox state.
Validation providers can also return disposable classifications. Review their definitions and handling of unknowns; uploading a list sends those addresses to the provider. See the validation guide.
Review before excluding domains
- Extract your input and download a complete reviewed copy before filtering.
- Inspect the original source and purpose for questionable addresses.
- Use domain filters to select or exclude a domain when appropriate.
- Confirm which addresses are displayed before copying or downloading the filtered list.
- Record the reason for exclusion outside the app if you need a lasting review trail.
Filtering the result view does not delete the original records from your source file. Keep the original export when you need to revisit a decision.
Do not assume a delivery outcome
Temporary addresses can bounce, accept a message, forward it or become inactive. The label alone does not guarantee any of those outcomes. Likewise, a privacy alias should not be replaced with an inferred personal address.
For account or customer communication, use the user's chosen contact channel and your established verification process. For marketing, review permission and preferences separately. The privacy guide explains why extraction and list-use authorization are different steps.
