Email Finder Tools with Free Plans: A Realistic Comparison
On this page
The Free Plan Reality
Most email finder tools advertise a free plan, but the free tiers vary enormously in what they actually provide. Some give enough volume for a solo freelancer or startup founder doing light prospecting. Others are effectively free trials that last a month before becoming unusable.
This guide compares what you actually get for free from each tool and when the free plan stops being viable.
Tool-by-Tool Breakdown
Hunter.io
Free allocation: 50 monthly credits shared across finding and verification, according to Hunter’s free-plan documentation, checked on 8 October 2026.
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Email finding and verification | Share the 50-credit allowance; actions have different credit costs |
| Domain search | Yes |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| API access | Yes |
| CSV export | Limited to 10 emails per domain |
| Integrations | Yes, including CRM and automation tools |
| Team members | Unlimited; shared credits |
| Sequences | One connected email account; 500 recipients per sequence |
Upgrade trigger: A larger credit allowance, full-result exports or additional connected mailboxes. Check Hunter’s pricing page for billing terms; this is a pooled allowance, not 25 searches plus 50 separate verifications.
Apollo.io
Free allocation: Limited credits per month (amount varies; Apollo adjusts its free tier periodically).
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Email credits | Limited (check current offering) |
| Mobile credits | Limited |
| Sequence automation | Yes (limited sends) |
| LinkedIn extension | Yes |
| Data filters | Basic (advanced filters on paid plans) |
| API access | No |
| CRM integrations | Basic |
| Intent data | No |
| Team seats | Yes (limited) |
What makes Apollo's free plan unusual: It includes sequence automation (email sending) in the free plan, not just email finding. This makes it a more complete tool for solo prospectors who want finding and outreach in one platform.
Upgrade trigger: When you need more credits, advanced filters (by technology, revenue, funding) or API access.
Snov.io
Free allocation: 50 credits per month.
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Email finder credits | 50/month |
| Email verifier | Yes (50/month) |
| Drip campaigns | Yes (limited) |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| LinkedIn finder | Yes |
| API access | No |
| CRM integrations | Basic |
| Team seats | 1 |
Credit system: One credit equals one email find or one email verification. 50 credits per month means 50 total operations, split however you choose between finding and verifying.
Upgrade trigger: When 50 operations per month is not enough, or when you need API access for automation.
Lusha
Free allocation: Limited credits per month.
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Contact credits | Limited (check current offering) |
| Email addresses | Yes |
| Phone numbers | Yes |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| LinkedIn overlay | Yes |
| API access | No |
| CRM integrations | No |
| Team features | No |
What makes Lusha's free plan different: It includes phone numbers, which most free plans do not. Useful for sales teams that combine email outreach with cold calling.
Upgrade trigger: When you need CRM integrations, API access or team features, or when credits run out.
RocketReach
Free allocation: Limited lookups per month.
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Lookups | Limited |
| Email addresses | Yes |
| Phone numbers | Limited |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| Bulk lookup | No |
| API access | No |
| Integrations | No |
Upgrade trigger: When you need bulk lookups, API access or integrations.
Clearbit Connect (discontinued)
Clearbit’s official notice says Connect and the listed free tools were discontinued on 30 April 2025. Do not count the former Connect extension as an available free plan. Current HubSpot enrichment products have separate entitlements that must be checked in HubSpot’s current documentation.
GetProspect
Free allocation: 50 emails per month.
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Email finder | 50/month |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| LinkedIn search | Yes |
| CSV export | Yes |
| Bulk search | Limited |
| API access | No |
Upgrade trigger: When you need more than 50 emails per month.
Voila Norbert
Free allocation: 50 searches upon signup (one-time, not monthly).
| Feature | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Email searches | 50 total (one-time) |
| Verification | Not included free |
| Chrome extension | Yes |
| API access | No |
| Bulk search | No |
Important: Voila Norbert's free allocation is a one-time credit, not a monthly refresh. Once you use 50 searches, the free access ends.
Comparison Table
| Tool | Free monthly credits | Includes phone | Chrome extension | Outreach/sequences | API |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter.io | 50 shared credits | No | Yes | Yes (limited) | Yes |

Note: Free plan allocations change frequently. Tools adjust their free tiers without notice. Check each tool's current pricing page for the most up-to-date limits.
What Free Plans Do Not Include
Across all tools, free plans typically exclude:
| Feature | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| API access | Cannot automate or integrate with your own workflows |
| Bulk operations | Must find emails one at a time |
| Advanced filters | Cannot filter by technology, revenue, funding, growth signals |
| Intent data | Cannot identify companies actively researching your category |
| CRM integration | Must manually export and import contacts |
| Team collaboration | Cannot share credits or lists across team members |
| Priority support | Limited to self-service documentation |
| Data enrichment | Basic contact data only, no company firmographics |
Free Alternatives That Do Not Use Credits
Some tools are genuinely free without credit limits:
Email Extractor (bulkemailextractor.com)
Email Extractor is free to use without an account, with no credit limits. It solves a different problem from the finder tools above: it extracts email addresses from files and text you already have, rather than looking up email addresses in a database.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Pricing | Free, no account required |
| Credit limits | None |
| What it does | Extracts emails from text, files and web pages |
| Supported files | 19 formats (TXT, CSV, PDF, XLSX, DOCX, HTML and more) |
| Deduplication | Automatic, case-insensitive |
| Export | TXT, CSV, CSV with sources |
| Processing | Client-side (text and files processed in your browser) |
Use case: You have files, documents or text containing email addresses and need to extract and deduplicate them. This is complementary to email finder tools, not a replacement.
Google dorking
Using Google's advanced search operators to find email addresses on public web pages is free and unlimited:
"@example.com" site:example.com
intitle:"staff directory" "@"
filetype:pdf "attendee list" "@"
See How to Use Google Dorking to Find Email Addresses for a detailed guide.
Manual research
Visiting company websites, checking team pages and reading public filings costs nothing but time. For high-value targets (enterprise accounts, key decision-makers), the manual approach often produces better results than database tools, because you build contextual knowledge about the company alongside the contact data.
Maximising Free Plan Value
Combine multiple tools
Each tool's free plan gives you a small number of lookups. Using three or four tools gives you 100-200 total lookups per month:
- Use Hunter for domain searches (25/month).
- Use Snov.io for individual lookups (50/month).
- Use Apollo for LinkedIn-based finding (limited/month).
- Upload all exports to Email Extractor to deduplicate across sources.
Be selective
With limited credits, do not waste them on low-value targets:
- Research the company before spending a credit. Is this a real prospect?
- Check the company website first. The email might be on their contact or team page (free to find).
- Use Google dorking to find publicly available addresses before using a paid tool's credit.
- Verify that the person is still at the company (check LinkedIn or the company website) before spending a credit.
Use free verification wisely
Hunter's 50 free verifications per month are valuable. Use them to verify addresses found through other channels (Google dorking, manual research, pattern guessing) rather than only verifying Hunter's own results.
When to Upgrade
Free plans stop making sense when:
| Signal | What it means |
|---|---|
| You exhaust credits in the first week | Volume has outgrown the free tier |
| You spend more time working around limits than prospecting | The tool is costing you time instead of saving it |
| You need API access for automation | Free plans never include API |
| Your team needs shared access | Free plans are single-user |
| You need advanced filters | Targeting by tech stack, revenue or intent requires paid plans |
| Verification matters at scale | Free verification allocations are too small for batch operations |
At that point, compare the paid plans by cost per email at your expected volume. The cheapest tool per email varies significantly by volume tier.
