How to Extract Emails from Postmark Activity
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Postmark?
Postmark is a transactional email delivery service known for fast delivery and high deliverability. It provides email sending via API and SMTP, message streams (transactional and broadcast), activity tracking, bounce management, templates, webhooks and analytics. Postmark stores activity data for every message sent, including recipient email addresses.
Extracting email addresses from Postmark data is useful for auditing who your application has emailed, building suppression lists from bounces, consolidating recipient data across email services, migrating to another platform or creating a backup.
How to Export from Postmark
Exporting from activity
- Log in to Postmark.
- Select the server and message stream.
- Go to Activity.
- Filter by date range, event type (sent, delivered, opened, bounced, etc.) or tag.
- Export the activity data as CSV.
- The CSV includes recipient email, subject, date, status and other fields.
Exporting bounces
- Go to Bounces.
- Filter by bounce type (hard bounce, soft bounce, spam complaint).
- Export as CSV. The export includes the bounced email addresses.
Exporting suppressions
- Go to Suppressions.
- Export the suppression list. These are addresses Postmark will not deliver to.
Using the API
Postmark's Messages API allows programmatic access to message activity. Export messages to a file using the API for larger datasets or custom date ranges.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the CSV file exported from Postmark. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.
Working with the Results
Audit recipients
Extract all recipient emails from delivery activity to see the full list of people your application has emailed. This helps with compliance and understanding your user base.
Build a suppression list
Extract emails from bounce and suppression exports. Import this list as a suppression list in other email platforms to protect deliverability.
Migrate to another service
If switching from Postmark to another transactional email service, extract recipient and suppression data to carry over to the new platform.
Verify addresses
Postmark activity includes delivery status, but addresses may have become invalid since last contact. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Contact data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Subjects, statuses, dates, tags and other activity fields are not carried over.
Sender and recipient emails
Activity data includes both sender and recipient addresses. Remove your own sending address from results.
Message streams
Postmark uses message streams to separate transactional and broadcast (marketing) messages. Export from each stream separately or together.
Activity retention
Postmark retains activity data for a limited period. Export before data expires.
Broadcast messages
Postmark's broadcast stream supports marketing-style emails. If you use this feature, recipient data from broadcasts is also available in activity exports.
