How to Extract Emails from Slack Channel Members
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Slack Channel Members?
Slack is a workplace communication platform that provides channels, direct messaging, file sharing, integrations, workflows and video/voice calls. Slack workspaces have members with email addresses used for account registration, notifications and profile information.
Extracting email addresses from Slack member data is useful for building team contact lists, auditing workspace membership, consolidating contacts from multiple workspaces, migrating to another platform or creating a backup.
How to Export from Slack
Exporting workspace members (Admin)
- Log in to Slack as a workspace admin or owner.
- Go to Settings & administration then Manage members.
- View the member list with names and email addresses.
- Click Export Member List (if available) to download a CSV.
- The CSV includes email, display name, username, account type and status.
Exporting from Slack Enterprise Grid
- Enterprise Grid admins can access member data across the organisation.
- Go to the admin dashboard.
- Export member data as CSV.
Using Slack's workspace export
- Go to Settings & administration then Workspace settings.
- Click Import/Export Data.
- Choose Export.
- The export includes message history and channel information. User profiles with emails are in the
users.jsonfile.
Exporting channel members
Slack does not provide a direct CSV export of individual channel members. To get channel member emails:
Option A: Use the Slack API
- Use the
conversations.membersAPI to list members of a specific channel. - Use the
users.infoAPI for each member to get their email. - Save the results as CSV or JSON.
Option B: Use the workspace member export and filter
- Export all workspace members as described above.
- Cross-reference with channel membership.

Working with the Results
Build a team directory
Use the extracted list as a company or team directory for internal tools, onboarding or distribution lists.
Audit membership
Compare the extracted list against your expected roster. Identify inactive accounts, departed employees or external guests who still have access.
Migrate to another platform
If moving from Slack to another communication tool, extract member emails to invite them to the new platform.
Create distribution lists
Build email distribution lists for specific teams or project groups based on Slack channel membership.
Things to Know
Contact data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Display names, usernames, account types, statuses and other member data are not carried over.
Admin access required
Exporting workspace member data requires admin or owner permissions. Regular members cannot export the member list.
External guests
Slack workspaces may include external guests (single-channel or multi-channel guests). Their email addresses appear in the member list alongside full members.
Deactivated accounts
Deactivated members may appear in the export depending on the export method. Their email addresses may no longer be valid.
Slack export (messages)
The general Slack workspace export includes message history. For extracting emails from Slack message exports, see Extract Emails from a Slack Export.
Privacy
Workspace member email addresses are shared with administrators. Using them for purposes beyond workspace administration may require additional consent.
