How to Extract Emails from Trello Boards

Why Extract from Trello Boards?
Trello is a visual project management tool based on boards, lists and cards. It is used for task management, kanban workflows, CRM pipelines, editorial calendars, hiring pipelines and many other purposes. Cards may contain email addresses in descriptions, custom fields, comments or checklists.
Extracting email addresses from Trello data is useful for importing into a CRM or marketing platform, consolidating contacts from project boards, building outreach lists from pipeline data or creating a backup.
How to Export from Trello
Exporting a board as JSON
- Open the board in Trello.
- Click Show Menu (or the three-dot menu).
- Select More then Print and export.
- Click Export as JSON.
- Save the JSON file. It includes all cards, descriptions, custom field values, labels, checklists and member data.
Exporting via a Power-Up
Trello's built-in export is JSON, which is less convenient than CSV. Power-Ups like Export for Trello or Board Export provide CSV and Excel exports. Install the Power-Up, open the board and export as CSV.
Exporting via Trello API
For advanced users, the Trello API provides endpoints to retrieve board, list and card data in JSON format.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
From JSON export
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the JSON file exported from Trello. Email Extractor supports JSON files and will search string values for email addresses. Up to 25 MB per file.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT, CSV, or CSV with sources.
From CSV export (via Power-Up)

Working with the Results
Import into a CRM or marketing platform
Trello is a project management tool, not a contact management or marketing platform. Import the extracted list into HubSpot, Mailchimp or another platform for email campaigns and contact management.
Consolidate across boards
If contact data is scattered across multiple Trello boards (a sales pipeline, a client management board, a hiring board), export each and upload together. Deduplication shows your total unique email addresses.
This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.
Verify addresses
Email addresses in Trello cards may be manually entered. Verification before outreach is recommended. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Contact data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Card titles, descriptions, labels, checklists, due dates and other fields from the Trello export are not carried over.
JSON format
Trello's native export format is JSON. Email Extractor supports JSON files and searches all string values for email addresses. JSON files do not have email-specific columns, so all email-like patterns in the data will be found.
Card descriptions
Email addresses commonly appear in card descriptions. These are included in both JSON and CSV exports.
Custom fields
Trello supports custom fields (with a Power-Up or built-in for certain plans), including text fields that may contain email addresses.
Comments
Card comments may contain email addresses. Comments are included in the JSON export but may not be in CSV exports from all Power-Ups.
Board members
Trello board members (team members) have email addresses associated with their accounts. These may appear in exports. Distinguish team emails from external contacts.
Email-to-board
Trello supports emailing cards to a board. The sender's email address may appear in the card's content.
Multiple boards
Export each board separately and upload all files together for deduplication.
