How to Import Extracted Emails into Brevo

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Import into Brevo?

After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) for email campaigns, marketing automations, transactional emails or CRM contact management. Brevo is an all-in-one marketing platform that combines email marketing, SMS campaigns, chat, CRM and transactional email in a single tool.

Importing an extracted email list into Brevo lets you add contacts to lists, send campaigns, set up automations, track engagement and manage contacts through Brevo's built-in CRM.

Before You Import

Prepare the file

Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. Brevo accepts CSV and TXT file imports. Email is the only required field.

  1. Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Download the results as CSV.
  3. The CSV contains one email address per row. This is ready for Brevo import.

If you have names or other data in a separate file and want to include them, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing.

Choose or create a list

Brevo organises contacts into lists (also called folders and lists). Before importing, decide which list to add contacts to. You can use an existing list or create a new one. Creating a dedicated list (e.g., "Extracted contacts - Oct 2026") helps track the origin of these contacts.

Consider verification

If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. High bounce rates from imported contacts can affect your sender reputation and Brevo account standing. See Best email verification services.

How to Import

  1. Log in to Brevo.
  2. Go to Contacts.
  3. Click Import contacts (or the import button).
  4. Select Upload a file and upload your CSV.
  5. Brevo shows a column mapping screen. Map the email column to the EMAIL attribute. If your file has only one column with email addresses, it typically maps automatically.
  6. Select the list to add these contacts to.
  7. Choose how to handle existing contacts:
    • Add and update adds new contacts and updates existing ones with any new data.
    • Add only imports only contacts that do not already exist in Brevo.
  8. Review and confirm the import.
  9. Brevo processes the file and shows an import summary with counts of added, updated and skipped contacts.

After Import

Tag or segment imported contacts

Use Brevo's segmentation features to identify imported contacts. You can segment by list membership, import date or by adding a custom attribute (e.g., "source: extracted-list") before import. This helps you target these contacts specifically in campaigns.

Check automation triggers

Review your existing automations to see if any are triggered by list subscription or contact creation. Imported contacts may enter automations if the triggers match. Adjust automation settings if you want to exclude newly imported contacts.

Send a re-engagement email

If the extracted emails have not heard from you recently, start with an introduction or re-engagement campaign. Explain who you are and why you are emailing. Include a clear unsubscribe link. This reduces spam complaints.

Monitor deliverability

After your first campaign to imported contacts, check Brevo's reports for bounce rate, spam complaints and unsubscribes. If any metric is unusually high, pause and review the list quality.

Things to Know

Brevo's import review

Brevo reviews imported contact lists for compliance. Lists with high bounce rates or spam complaint rates may be flagged. Importing purchased or scraped lists violates Brevo's terms. Make sure the contacts in your import were collected with appropriate consent.

Contact pricing

Brevo's pricing model is based on email volume (number of emails sent per month), not contact count, for most plans. This means importing a large list does not necessarily increase your costs unless you send more emails. However, some plans have contact limits. Check your plan details.

Duplicate handling

Brevo uses email address as the unique identifier for contacts. If an imported email address already exists in your account, the existing contact is updated (added to the new list, given any new attributes) rather than creating a duplicate.

Blocklisted contacts

If an email address was previously blocklisted in your Brevo account (due to bounces, spam complaints or unsubscribes), importing that address again does not remove it from the blocklist. Brevo respects blocklist status to protect your sender reputation.

Brevo CRM

Brevo includes a built-in CRM for managing deals and contacts. Imported contacts become available in both the marketing and CRM sections. You can create deals and assign them to imported contacts.

No automatic enrichment

Brevo does not automatically look up names, companies or other details for imported email addresses. If you import email addresses only, the contact records will contain just the email address.

Transactional vs marketing

Brevo handles both transactional and marketing email. Imported contacts are added to your marketing contact list. Transactional email sending is separate and does not require contacts to be in a list.
