How to Extract Emails from Google Workspace Directory

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Google Workspace?

Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) is a cloud-based productivity and collaboration platform used by businesses, schools and organizations. Every user in a Google Workspace domain has an email address. The admin console maintains a directory of all users, groups and organizational units.

Extracting email addresses from Google Workspace is useful for building distribution lists, auditing user accounts, creating contact lists for external tools, consolidating directories across multiple domains or creating a backup.

How to Export from Google Workspace

Using the Admin Console

  1. Log in to the Google Admin console at admin.google.com.
  2. Go to Directory then Users.
  3. Filter by organizational unit, status (active, suspended) or other criteria if needed.
  4. Click Download users (the download icon).
  5. Choose which columns to include. Email address is included by default.
  6. Select All users or Selected columns.
  7. Download as CSV.
  8. The CSV includes email, name, status, organizational unit, last sign-in and other fields.

Exporting groups

  1. In the Admin console, go to Directory then Groups.
  2. Select a group.
  3. View and export group members.
  4. Members include their email addresses.

Using Google Takeout (individual)

  1. Go to takeout.google.com.
  2. Select Contacts to export your personal Google Contacts.
  3. Download as CSV or vCard.

Using the Directory API

  1. Use the Admin SDK Directory API to list users programmatically.
  2. Call the users.list endpoint with your domain.
  3. Save results as CSV or JSON.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file from Google Workspace. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.

Working with the Results

Build distribution lists

Create email distribution lists for departments, teams or projects outside of Google Groups.

Audit accounts

Compare the extracted list against HR records to identify orphaned accounts, former employees who still have access or unused accounts.

Import into external tools

Import user emails into CRMs, email marketing platforms, project management tools or other systems that need a team directory.

Multi-domain consolidation

If your organization uses multiple Google Workspace domains, export users from each and upload together. Deduplication shows your total unique user base.

Verify addresses

Google Workspace accounts are managed by the organization. Active accounts have valid email addresses. Suspended or deleted accounts may bounce. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, organizational units, roles, statuses, last sign-in dates and other admin fields are not carried over.

Admin access required

Exporting the user directory requires Google Workspace admin privileges. Regular users cannot export the full directory.

Aliases

Google Workspace users can have email aliases (alternative addresses that deliver to the same mailbox). Aliases may or may not appear in the export depending on the export method.

Suspended accounts

Suspended users still appear in the directory. Their email addresses exist but do not receive mail until reactivated.

Google Contacts vs. Google Workspace directory

Google Contacts is a personal contact list. The Google Workspace directory is the organization's user list. They are separate. For Google Contacts, see Extract Emails from Google Contacts Export.

Organizational units

Google Workspace organizes users into organizational units (OUs). Export the full directory or filter by OU.
