How to Extract Emails from WordPress User Exports

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from WordPress Users?

WordPress is the most widely used content management system. Every WordPress site has a user database that stores email addresses for registered users. Depending on the site, these users may include administrators, editors, authors, subscribers, customers (WooCommerce), members (membership plugins) or forum participants.

Extracting email addresses from WordPress user data is useful for migrating to a new platform, building a mailing list from registered users, consolidating user data across multiple WordPress sites, auditing accounts or creating a backup.

How to Export from WordPress

Using the built-in export

WordPress has a built-in export tool, but it exports content (posts, pages, comments) as XML. It does not directly export user data with email addresses. For user exports, a plugin is needed.

Using an export plugin

Several plugins export WordPress users as CSV:

  1. Install a user export plugin (such as Export Users to CSV, WP All Export or Users Insights).
  2. Go to the plugin's export page.
  3. Select the user roles to export (subscriber, customer, editor, etc.).
  4. Choose which fields to include. Make sure email is selected.
  5. Export as CSV.

Using WooCommerce

If your WordPress site runs WooCommerce, customer data can be exported separately:

  1. Go to WooCommerce then Customers.
  2. Export customers as CSV.
  3. The export includes email, name, order count and other customer details.

Using phpMyAdmin

For technical users, WordPress user data can be exported directly from the database:

  1. Access phpMyAdmin through your hosting control panel.
  2. Open the WordPress database.
  3. Find the wp_users table.
  4. Export the table as CSV.
  5. The table includes user_email, user_login, display_name and registration date.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file exported from WordPress. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.

Working with the Results

Build a mailing list

Import registered user emails into Mailchimp, Kit, ActiveCampaign or another email marketing platform. Users who registered on your site have shown interest in your content.

Migrate to a new platform

If moving from WordPress to another CMS, LMS or membership platform, extract user emails to invite them to create accounts on the new site.

Consolidate across sites

If you run multiple WordPress sites, export users from each and upload together. Deduplication shows your total unique registered users.

Verify addresses

Users may have registered with temporary or since-abandoned email addresses. Verification before campaigns is recommended. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Usernames, display names, roles, registration dates and other fields are not carried over.

User roles

WordPress assigns roles to users (administrator, editor, author, contributor, subscriber). Export plugins typically let you filter by role. Subscribers are usually the group most relevant for email marketing.

Admin and test accounts

The export may include administrator accounts and test accounts. Remove these from your list before importing into email marketing tools.

Consent

Users registered on your site, but that registration may not constitute consent for marketing emails. Check your site's terms and privacy policy. Consider sending a re-engagement or opt-in email before adding users to marketing campaigns.

Multisite installations

WordPress multisite installations have separate user tables per site, but users may be shared across sites. Export from each site and deduplicate.

WooCommerce customers

WooCommerce customers are WordPress users with additional customer data. For WooCommerce-specific exports, see Extract emails from WooCommerce customers.
