How to Extract Emails from a Copper CRM Export

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Copper CRM?

Copper (formerly ProsperWorks) is a CRM built for Google Workspace. It integrates directly with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Contacts, automatically pulling in contact details, email threads and calendar events. Copper stores people records, company records, opportunities and project data with fields including email addresses, phone numbers, company associations, tags, activity history and custom fields.

Extracting email addresses from Copper CRM data is useful in several scenarios.

Migrating to another CRM. When switching from Copper to a different CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive), a clean email list serves as a migration cross-reference to verify that all contacts transferred to the new system.

Consolidating contacts. If your team uses Copper alongside other tools (an email marketing platform, a project management tool, a billing system), extracting from each and deduplicating shows your total unique email-address count.

This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.

Building a campaign list. If you want to email Copper contacts through a dedicated email marketing platform, extracting the email addresses gives you a list to import.

Archiving before changes. Before changing Copper plans, removing users, or switching CRMs, extracting all email addresses ensures you have an independent backup that does not depend on continued Copper access.

How to Export from Copper

Copper allows you to export people, companies and opportunities.

Exporting people (contacts)

  1. Log in to Copper.
  2. Go to People from the left sidebar.
  3. Apply any filters if you want a subset (by tag, status, owner, pipeline stage, etc.), or leave unfiltered for all people.
  4. Click the Export button (typically found in the toolbar or actions menu).
  5. Copper generates a CSV file. For large exports, it may take a moment or send an email notification when ready.
  6. Download the CSV file.

Exporting from leads

If your Copper instance uses a separate Leads pipeline:

  1. Go to Leads from the left sidebar.
  2. Apply filters if needed.
  3. Export as CSV.

Export fields

Copper people exports can include: email address (primary email and additional emails), first name, last name, title, company, phone numbers, address, tags, owner, status, source, interaction count, last interaction date and custom fields. The specific columns depend on your Copper account configuration and the fields you have populated.

Automatic contact creation

Copper automatically creates people records from Gmail interactions if the auto-create feature is enabled. This means your Copper database may contain contacts you never manually added. Be aware that these auto-created contacts may not have explicit consent to receive marketing emails.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file (or files, if you exported people and leads separately). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which export file each address came from.

Working with the Results

Compare with Google Contacts

Since Copper syncs with Google Workspace, some contacts may exist in both Copper and Google Contacts. Export both and upload both files in one extraction. Deduplication shows whether the two systems are in sync or if contacts exist in one but not the other.

Combine people and leads

If Copper stores people and leads as separate record types, export both and upload both CSV files in one extraction. Deduplication reveals how many unique email addresses exist across both record types and whether any leads share an email with an existing person record.

Migrate to a non-Google CRM

If you are moving from Copper (which is tightly integrated with Google Workspace) to a CRM that does not integrate with Google, the extracted email list provides a clean starting point. You will lose the automatic Gmail sync but retain every contact's email address.

Clean stale contacts

Copper accounts that have auto-create enabled accumulate contacts rapidly from every email exchange. Many of these may be one-time correspondents (delivery notifications, support exchanges, vendor replies) rather than business contacts you want to keep. After extraction, review the list and verify before importing elsewhere. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Multiple email addresses per contact

Copper contacts can have multiple email addresses (primary and additional). All email addresses in the export are extracted. A single contact with two email addresses will contribute two addresses to the extracted list.

Column headers are not extracted

CSV column headers from Copper are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, companies, phone numbers, tags, opportunity data, interaction history and custom fields from the Copper export are not carried over. If you need those fields in your new CRM, import the original CSV directly.

Auto-created contacts

Copper's auto-create feature generates people records from Gmail threads. These contacts were not manually added and may not have consented to marketing communications. Review the source column (if available) in the original export to distinguish manually created contacts from auto-created ones before using the extracted list for outreach.

Copper and Google Contacts overlap

Copper can sync with Google Contacts, but they are separate databases. A contact in Google Contacts is not necessarily in Copper and vice versa, unless sync is configured. Exporting from both sources and extracting together gives a complete picture.

Activity and interaction data

Copper tracks email opens, email sends, meetings, calls and notes for each contact. This activity data is not included in a standard CSV export of people records and is not preserved in the extracted output. If you need interaction history for migration, check whether Copper offers a full data export or API access.
