How to Import Extracted Emails into Copper CRM

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Import into Copper CRM?

Copper (formerly ProsperWorks) is a CRM built for Google Workspace. It integrates deeply with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and other Google apps. Copper provides contact and company management, deal pipelines, email tracking, task management, reporting and workflow automation. It is popular among teams that already work primarily in Google Workspace.

After extracting email addresses with Email Extractor, you can import them into Copper to create contact records (people), associate them with companies, add them to pipelines and manage relationships.

Preparing the File

Email Extractor gives you three download formats:

TXT file. One email per line.

CSV file. One column of email addresses. Works well for Copper import.

CSV with sources. Two columns: email and source file. Map only the email column during import.

For Copper, CSV is the recommended format.

How to Import

  1. Log in to Copper.
  2. Go to People (or the record type you want to import into).
  3. Click Import then Import from CSV.
  4. Upload the CSV file.
  5. Map the email column to the Email field in Copper.
  6. Choose how to handle duplicates (skip or update).
  7. Optionally assign imported contacts to a specific pipeline stage, tag or owner.
  8. Review and start the import.
  9. Copper processes the file and shows a summary of records created and updated.

After Import

Google Workspace sync

Once contacts are in Copper, interactions through Gmail are automatically tracked. Emails sent to or received from imported contacts appear in their Copper timeline.

Add to a pipeline

Create opportunities or deals for imported contacts and track them through your sales pipeline.

Tag imported contacts

Apply tags to imported contacts for easy filtering and segmentation.

Enrich contact data

Since Email Extractor outputs email addresses only, use Copper's Google integration or a data enrichment service to fill in names, companies and other details.

Verify addresses

Consider verifying the extracted list before importing. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, companies, phone numbers, job titles and other fields will not be populated. Add this data manually, through enrichment or through Copper's Google integration.

People, companies and opportunities

Copper organises records into people (contacts), companies and opportunities (deals). When importing email-only data, records are created as people.

Google Workspace integration

Copper's primary differentiator is its deep Google Workspace integration. Contacts in Copper automatically link to Gmail conversations, Google Calendar events and Google Drive files.

Chrome extension

Copper offers a Chrome extension (sidebar) that shows CRM data inside Gmail. Imported contacts appear in the sidebar when you open their emails.

Record limits

Copper plans have record limits. Check your plan's allowance before importing a large list.

Duplicate handling

Copper checks for duplicate email addresses during import. Existing contacts with matching emails can be skipped or updated.

Email Extractor does not establish consent

Extracting email addresses does not create permission to send marketing emails. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations. See Consent types explained.
