Why Extract from Mailchimp Automations?

Mailchimp offers Customer Journeys and classic automations including welcome series, abandoned cart emails, post-purchase follow-ups, date-based triggers and custom workflows. Each automation tracks which subscribers entered, are in progress, completed or were removed from the journey.

While the general Mailchimp export is covered in Extract Emails from Mailchimp Export, audience segments in Extract Emails from Mailchimp Audience Segments, and report data in Extract Emails from Mailchimp Reports, this article focuses on automation-specific exports.

Working with the Results

Journey completers

Extract emails from subscribers who completed a Customer Journey. These subscribers have been fully nurtured and are ready for the next stage.

Step-specific contacts

Extract emails from subscribers at a specific journey step. Use for targeted messaging based on where they are in the funnel.

Removed subscribers

Extract emails from subscribers removed from a journey. Investigate why they were removed and re-engage if appropriate.

Verify addresses

Subscribers active in automations are confirmed audience members. Bounced addresses should be removed. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, merge fields, tags, journey status and other Mailchimp data are not carried over.

Customer Journeys vs. classic automations

Mailchimp has two automation systems. Customer Journeys are the newer builder with branching logic. Classic automations are simpler linear sequences. Export processes differ slightly between the two.
