How to Extract Emails from Stripe Subscriptions

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Stripe Subscriptions?

Stripe is a payment processing platform used by businesses for one-time payments, subscriptions, invoicing and marketplace transactions. For SaaS companies, membership sites and subscription businesses, Stripe stores every subscriber's email address along with their subscription status, plan, billing cycle and payment history.

While the general Stripe export is covered in Extract Emails from Stripe Customers, this article focuses on subscription-specific data for targeting active subscribers, churned customers and trial users.

How to Export from Stripe

Exporting subscriptions

  1. Log in to the Stripe Dashboard.
  2. Go to Billing then Subscriptions.
  3. Filter by status (active, past due, cancelled, trialing, incomplete).
  4. Click Export to download as CSV.
  5. The CSV includes customer email, subscription ID, plan, status, start date, billing interval and amount.

Exporting by subscription status

  1. In the Subscriptions view, filter by a specific status:
    • Active for current paying subscribers.
    • Canceled for churned subscribers.
    • Trialing for trial users.
    • Past due for subscribers with failed payments.
  2. Export each filtered view separately.

Exporting customers with subscriptions

  1. Go to Customers.
  2. Filter by subscription presence or status.
  3. Export as CSV.

Using the Stripe API

  1. Use the /v1/subscriptions endpoint to list subscriptions.
  2. Include expand[]=data.customer to get customer email with each subscription.
  3. Save results as CSV or JSON.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file from Stripe. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.

Convert trials

Extract emails from trialing subscribers for conversion sequences highlighting value, case studies and upgrade benefits.

Engage active subscribers

Import active subscriber emails into an email marketing platform for product updates, feature announcements and upsell campaigns.

Recover failed payments

Extract emails from past-due subscriptions for dunning sequences reminding customers to update their payment method.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, plans, amounts, billing cycles, statuses and other Stripe fields are not carried over.

One customer, multiple subscriptions

A customer may have multiple subscriptions (different plans or products). They appear once in the extracted list after deduplication.

Test mode vs. live mode

Stripe has test mode and live mode. Make sure you export from live mode for real customer data.
