How to Extract Emails from Stripe Customers

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Stripe?

Stripe is a payment processing platform used by businesses of all sizes to accept online payments, manage subscriptions, handle invoicing, prevent fraud and process payouts. Stripe stores customer data for everyone who has made a payment, been invoiced or been added as a customer in the system.

Extracting email addresses from Stripe customer data is useful for importing into a marketing platform, consolidating customer data across business tools, identifying your paying customer base, tracking churn by comparing current and past customers or creating a backup.

Working with the Results

Import into a marketing platform

Stripe handles payments, not marketing. Import the extracted list into Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Kit or another email platform for customer newsletters, product updates, re-engagement campaigns and retention emails.

Consolidate with CRM data

Compare Stripe customers with your CRM contacts. Some paying customers may not exist in your CRM, especially if they purchased through a checkout page without going through a sales process.

Identify active vs churned customers

Export active subscriptions and cancelled subscriptions separately. Upload both to Email Extractor and compare the lists to identify churned customers for win-back campaigns.

Verify addresses

Customer email addresses from Stripe are typically valid since they receive receipts and invoices. However, some may have become inactive. Verification before marketing campaigns is recommended. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, payment history, subscription details, lifetime value and other fields from the Stripe export are not carried over.

Customer vs payment emails

A Stripe customer record has an email field. The email used at checkout may differ from the email on the customer record if the customer was created separately.

Guest checkouts

Some Stripe integrations allow guest checkouts without creating a customer record. These transactions may not appear in the customer export but do appear in payment exports.

Test vs live mode

Stripe has test and live modes. Ensure you export from live mode to get real customer data.

Multiple products or businesses

If you have multiple Stripe accounts (for different products or businesses), export from each and upload together for deduplication.

Stripe does not handle marketing

Stripe is a payment processor. It does not send marketing emails. Use the extracted list in a marketing platform.

Privacy and consent

Customers provided their email for payment processing and receipts. Using their email for marketing may require additional consent depending on your jurisdiction and how you collected the email.
