How to Extract Emails from Wave Customers
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Wave?
Wave is a free accounting and invoicing platform designed for small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs. It provides invoicing, accounting, receipt scanning, financial reporting, payroll (paid add-on), payments processing and customer management. Every customer in Wave has an email address used for sending invoices, receipts and estimates.
Extracting email addresses from Wave customer data is useful for building a mailing list of clients, importing into a CRM or email marketing platform, migrating to another accounting tool or creating a backup.

Working with the Results
Build a client mailing list
Import the extracted list into Mailchimp, Kit, ActiveCampaign or another email marketing platform for client newsletters, service updates, promotions or seasonal greetings.
Import into a CRM
If you use a CRM alongside Wave, import extracted emails to maintain a unified contact database with deal tracking and follow-up sequences.
Migrate to another platform
If switching from Wave to another accounting tool (QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Xero), extract client emails to recreate customer records in the new system.
Verify addresses
Client email addresses used for invoicing are usually valid because clients interact with invoices at those addresses. Older records for inactive clients may be outdated. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Contact data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Client names, companies, addresses, phone numbers, invoice amounts and other details are not carried over.
Free platform
Wave's core accounting and invoicing features are free. This makes it popular with small businesses, so exports may be smaller than from paid platforms.
Multiple contacts per customer
Some customer records in Wave may have multiple email addresses (billing and CC). The extraction captures all email addresses found in the file.
Archived customers
Wave may include archived or inactive customers in exports depending on your filter settings. Review the export scope before downloading.
Vendor contacts
Wave also stores vendor (supplier) contacts. These are separate from customer contacts. If you need vendor emails, export them separately.
