How to Extract Emails from Tally Form Responses

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Tally?

Tally is a free form builder that lets you create forms, surveys, quizzes, sign-up pages and lead capture forms without coding. It is popular among startups, indie makers, creators and small teams because of its generous free tier and clean interface. Responses are stored in Tally and can be exported to CSV or viewed through integrations with tools like Notion, Google Sheets, Airtable and Zapier.

Extracting email addresses from Tally responses is useful in several scenarios.

Building a contact list. If you use Tally for newsletter sign-ups, waitlist registrations, event sign-ups or feedback forms, the email addresses from those responses form a contact list you can import into your email marketing platform or CRM.

Combining responses from multiple forms. If you have created separate Tally forms for different purposes (a waitlist form, a feedback form, a contact form), email addresses are spread across multiple forms. Extracting from all of them produces a single deduplicated list.

Recovering contacts outside integrations. Even if Tally is connected to Notion or Google Sheets through an integration, those connections may not have been active from the start, or they may have broken at some point. Exporting directly from Tally and extracting captures every email address regardless of integration status.

Migrating to another form builder. Before switching from Tally to another tool, extracting all email addresses from historical submissions ensures you have a backup.

How to Export from Tally

Tally allows you to export responses from each form.

  1. Log in to Tally at tally.so.
  2. Open the form whose responses you want to export.
  3. Go to the Submissions tab.
  4. Click the Export button (or the download/CSV export option).
  5. Tally generates a CSV file containing all submissions.
  6. Download the file.

Repeat for each form you want to extract from.

The exported CSV contains one row per submission and one column per form field. Email addresses appear in the column corresponding to your email input field.

Partial submissions

Tally can optionally capture partial submissions (responses from people who started but did not finish the form). If this setting is enabled, partial submissions may be included in the export. Some partial submissions may have an email address and some may not.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file (or files, if you exported from multiple forms). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which form export each address came from.

Working with the Results

Track which form each contact came from

If you export each Tally form separately and upload all the files in one extraction, downloading as CSV with sources shows which form each address appeared in. This helps you distinguish waitlist sign-ups from feedback respondents or event registrants.

Combine with other form builders

If you use Tally alongside other form tools (Google Forms, Typeform, JotForm), export from each and upload all files in a single extraction. Deduplication handles contacts who submitted forms on multiple platforms.

Feed into an email platform

After extraction, import the deduplicated list into your email marketing platform (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, MailerLite, Brevo, etc.) to start sending campaigns. If the form responses span a long period, verify the list first to remove addresses that may no longer be active. See Best email verification services.

Sync with Notion or Airtable

If you manage contacts in Notion or Airtable, you can import the extracted list there. This is useful if the Tally-to-Notion or Tally-to-Airtable integration was not set up from the start and you want to backfill earlier submissions.

Things to Know

Column headers are not extracted

CSV column headers from Tally (your field labels) are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.

Response data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, phone numbers, free-text answers, file uploads, ratings and other fields from the Tally export are not carried over. If you need those fields, work with the original CSV file.

Free vs paid Tally features

Tally's free tier includes unlimited forms and submissions. The export feature is available on the free plan. Some advanced features like removing Tally branding, custom domains and payment collection require a paid plan, but these do not affect the export or extraction process.

Consent considerations

As with all form builders, the consent given by respondents is specific to the purpose described by the form. A waitlist sign-up does not automatically grant marketing consent. Review each form's purpose and privacy notice before using extracted addresses for communications beyond the original purpose. See Email consent types explained.

Hidden fields and URL parameters

Tally supports hidden fields that can capture data from URL parameters (e.g., UTM tags, referral sources). These fields appear in the export as additional columns. They do not typically contain email addresses, but if a hidden field is set up to pass an email address via URL parameter, that address will appear in the export and be extracted.
