How to Extract Emails from WooCommerce Abandoned Carts
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from WooCommerce Abandoned Carts?
WooCommerce is an open source ecommerce plugin for WordPress. While WooCommerce does not track abandoned carts natively, popular plugins add this functionality. These plugins capture the email address when a customer enters it at checkout but does not complete the purchase.
Extracting email addresses from abandoned cart data is useful for cart recovery campaigns, analyzing cart abandonment patterns, importing into external email marketing platforms or running targeted re-engagement campaigns.
While the general WooCommerce customer and order exports are covered in other guides, this article focuses on abandoned cart data specifically.
How to Export from WooCommerce
Using an abandoned cart plugin
WooCommerce requires a plugin to track abandoned carts. Common options include:
- WooCommerce Cart Abandonment Recovery (CartFlows)
- Abandoned Cart Lite for WooCommerce
- Retainful
- YITH WooCommerce Recover Abandoned Cart
Each plugin tracks when a customer starts checkout, enters an email and leaves without completing the purchase.
Exporting abandoned cart data
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to the abandoned cart plugin's settings (location varies by plugin).
- View the list of abandoned carts.
- Filter by date range or status (abandoned, recovered, pending).
- Click Export to download as CSV.
- The CSV typically includes email, cart date, cart value, items and recovery status.
Manual export
If the plugin does not have an export feature:
- View abandoned carts in the plugin dashboard.
- Copy the data into a spreadsheet manually.
- Save as CSV.
Using WooCommerce with Klaviyo, Mailchimp or Omnisend
If you use an email marketing integration:
- Abandoned cart data may sync to the marketing platform automatically.
- Export the abandoned cart segment from the marketing platform as CSV.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the CSV file from the abandoned cart plugin. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.
Working with the Results
Cart recovery campaigns
Import abandoned cart emails into Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend or another platform for recovery email sequences: reminder emails, discount offers and urgency-driven messaging.
Segment by cart value
Export abandoned carts filtered by value (high-value vs. low-value). Extract emails from each for tailored recovery strategies.
Compare with completed orders
Upload abandoned cart exports and completed order exports together. Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Use the original transaction records to confirm purchases and match customers; unique addresses are not a count of unique people.
Re-engagement
Customers who abandoned carts showed purchase intent. Import their emails for broader re-engagement campaigns beyond cart-specific messaging.
Verify addresses
Abandoned cart emails are entered by the customer during checkout and are usually valid. However, some customers may enter fake emails to browse checkout pricing. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Contact data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Cart items, cart values, abandonment dates, recovery statuses and other fields are not carried over.
Plugin required
WooCommerce does not track abandoned carts natively. You need a plugin to capture this data. Without a plugin, there is no abandoned cart data to export.
Guest checkout
WooCommerce allows guest checkout. Guest customers who enter their email at checkout but do not complete the purchase are captured by abandoned cart plugins if the email field is filled before abandonment.
Timing matters
Some plugins only capture the email after the customer enters it in the checkout form. Customers who add items to the cart but never reach checkout may not be tracked.
