How to Import Extracted Emails into AWeber

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Import into AWeber?

After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into AWeber for email marketing. AWeber is an email marketing platform that has been serving small businesses, entrepreneurs and content creators since 1998. It offers email campaigns, autoresponders, landing pages, sign-up forms, web push notifications, ecommerce features and an AI writing assistant.

Importing an extracted email list into AWeber lets you add subscribers to lists, send broadcasts and set up autoresponder sequences.

Before You Import

Prepare the file

Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. AWeber accepts CSV, TSV, TXT and XLS/XLSX imports. Email is the only required field.

  1. Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Download the results as CSV or TXT.
  3. The file contains one email address per row. This is ready for AWeber import.

If you have names or other data in a separate file, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing. AWeber supports first name, last name and custom fields during import.

Choose a list

AWeber organises subscribers into lists. Before importing, choose an existing list or create a new one.

Consider verification

If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. AWeber reviews imports for quality and may reject lists with high numbers of invalid addresses. See Best email verification services.

How to Import

  1. Log in to AWeber.
  2. Go to Subscribers > Add Subscribers.
  3. Select Import from a File.
  4. Choose your CSV or TXT file.
  5. AWeber shows a field mapping screen. Map the email column to the Email field.
  6. Select the list to import into.
  7. Optionally choose whether to subscribe imported contacts to an autoresponder.
  8. Optionally apply a tag.
  9. Confirm that you have permission to email these subscribers.
  10. Submit the import.
  11. AWeber reviews the import. This may take a few minutes or longer depending on list size. AWeber may ask you to confirm the source of the email addresses.
  12. Once approved, AWeber shows an import summary.

After Import

Review the import results

AWeber reports how many subscribers were added, how many already existed and how many were not imported (due to previous unsubscribes, bounces or suppression). Review these numbers.

Check autoresponders

If you selected an autoresponder during import, imported subscribers begin receiving the autoresponder sequence. Review the sequence to confirm it is appropriate for imported subscribers.

Send a broadcast

Before sending a full broadcast to imported subscribers, test with a small group. Monitor open rate, bounce rate and unsubscribes.

Use tags

AWeber supports tags for organising subscribers. Apply a tag during import (e.g., "Imported Oct 2026") to segment imported subscribers later.

Things to Know

Import review

AWeber reviews imports for compliance. Unlike some platforms that process imports immediately, AWeber may require additional verification if the import is large or if the email addresses come from certain sources. Be prepared to explain how the email addresses were collected.

Subscriber-centric within lists

Each email address exists once per list. Importing an address that already exists on the list updates that subscriber rather than creating a duplicate. The same address can exist on different lists.

Unsubscribes are permanent per list

If a subscriber previously unsubscribed from an AWeber list, importing their email address into that same list does not re-subscribe them. AWeber respects the original unsubscribe.

Pricing

AWeber charges based on the number of subscribers across all lists. Importing subscribers increases your count and may change your plan tier. AWeber offers a free plan for up to 500 subscribers.

No enrichment

AWeber does not look up names or other details for imported email addresses. Subscribers imported with email only will have minimal profiles.

Autoresponders vs campaigns

AWeber has two types of emails: autoresponders (automated sequences triggered by subscription) and campaigns/broadcasts (one-time sends). Choose carefully whether imported subscribers should enter an autoresponder.

Legacy lists

AWeber uses a list-based system. Each list has its own subscribers, forms, autoresponders and settings. This is different from tag-based systems where all contacts are in one pool. Plan which list to import into based on how you organise your marketing.

Confirmed opt-in

AWeber supports confirmed (double) opt-in for form sign-ups, but CSV imports bypass the confirmation process. Imported subscribers are added directly.
