How to Import Extracted Emails into Kit (ConvertKit)
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Import into Kit?
After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into Kit (formerly ConvertKit) for email marketing. Kit is an email marketing platform built for creators: bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, authors, course creators and independent businesses. It focuses on subscriber management, visual automations, landing pages, commerce and deliverability.
Importing an extracted email list into Kit lets you add subscribers, tag them, enroll them in sequences and send broadcasts.
Before You Import
Prepare the file
Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. Kit accepts CSV imports. Email is the only required field for subscriber creation.
- Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
- Download the results as CSV.
- The CSV contains one email address per row. This is ready for Kit import.
If you have first names or other data in a separate file and want to include them, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing. Kit's subscriber model uses email address, first name and custom fields.
Choose a tag or form
Kit organises subscribers using tags and forms rather than traditional lists. Before importing, decide how to categorise the imported subscribers. Creating a dedicated tag (e.g., "Imported Oct 2026") helps you track and segment them later.
Consider verification
If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. Kit monitors deliverability closely, and high bounce rates can trigger account review. See Best email verification services.
How to Import
- Log in to Kit.
- Go to Grow > Subscribers.
- Click Import subscribers (or Add subscribers).
- Choose Import a CSV file.
- Select your CSV file.
- Kit shows a field mapping screen. Map the email column to the Email address field.
- Assign a tag to the imported subscribers. This is how you will identify them later.
- Optionally select a sequence to enroll them in after import.
- Confirm that you have permission to email these subscribers.
- Start the import.
- Kit processes the file and shows a summary of subscribers added, updated and skipped.
After Import
Review the import summary
Kit reports how many subscribers were created, how many already existed and how many were skipped (due to previous unsubscribes or complaints). Review these numbers to understand the quality of the imported list.
Check automation triggers
Kit automations can be triggered by tags. If the tag you assigned to imported subscribers triggers an automation (a welcome sequence, an onboarding flow), those subscribers will enter the automation. Review your automation triggers before importing, or use a tag that is not connected to any automation.
Send a broadcast
Before sending a full broadcast to imported subscribers, consider sending to a small test segment first. Monitor open rate, bounce rate and unsubscribes. Kit provides per-broadcast analytics.
Use segments
Kit's segment builder lets you create dynamic groups based on tags, custom fields, subscription date and engagement. Create a segment for imported subscribers to track their behaviour separately from organic subscribers.
Things to Know
Subscriber-centric model
Kit uses a subscriber-centric model. Each email address is one subscriber, regardless of how many tags or forms they are associated with. Importing an email address that already exists in Kit updates that subscriber (adds the new tag) rather than creating a duplicate.
Unsubscribes are permanent
If a subscriber previously unsubscribed from your Kit account, importing their email address again does not re-subscribe them. Kit respects the original unsubscribe decision. These subscribers are skipped during import.
Pricing
Kit charges based on the number of subscribers. Importing a large list increases your subscriber count and may affect your billing tier. Unsubscribed and bounced subscribers do not count toward the limit.
No enrichment
Kit does not automatically look up names, companies or other information for imported email addresses. If you import email addresses only, the subscriber records will contain just the email address. You can add first names and custom fields through a separate import or manually.
Tags vs forms
Tags and forms serve different purposes in Kit. Tags are labels you apply to subscribers for segmentation. Forms are opt-in points (landing pages, embedded forms) that add subscribers. When importing, you assign tags, not forms. If you want imported subscribers to appear as though they came through a specific form, that is not possible through CSV import.
Sequences
Kit sequences are automated email series. You can optionally enroll imported subscribers in a sequence during import. Consider whether an existing sequence is appropriate for imported subscribers, who may not have the same context as organic subscribers.
Cold subscribers
Kit identifies "cold subscribers" as those who have not opened or clicked in a long time. Imported subscribers with no engagement history start without engagement data. Kit may classify them as cold if they do not engage with initial broadcasts.
Double opt-in
Kit supports double opt-in for forms, but CSV imports bypass the double opt-in process. Imported subscribers are added directly without receiving a confirmation email.
