How to Import Extracted Emails into MailerLite
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Import into MailerLite?
After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into MailerLite for email campaigns, newsletters, automations, landing pages or subscriber management. MailerLite is an email marketing platform known for its clean interface, generous free tier and strong deliverability.
Importing an extracted email list into MailerLite lets you add subscribers to groups, send campaigns, build automations, create segments and track engagement.
Before You Import
Prepare the file
Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. MailerLite accepts CSV imports. Email is the only required field.
- Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
- Download the results as CSV.
- The CSV contains one email address per row. This is ready for MailerLite import.
If you have names or other data in a separate file and want to include them, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing.
Choose or create a group
MailerLite organises subscribers into groups. Before importing, decide which group to add subscribers to. You can use an existing group or create a new one. Creating a dedicated group (e.g., "Imported from extraction - Oct 2026") helps track the origin of these subscribers.
Consider verification
If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. High bounce rates from imported subscribers can affect your sender reputation and MailerLite account standing. MailerLite also runs its own import validation and may reject addresses it considers risky. See Best email verification services.
How to Import
- Log in to MailerLite.
- Go to Subscribers.
- Click Import (or Add subscribers > Import from CSV).
- Upload your CSV file.
- MailerLite shows a field mapping screen. Map the email column to the Email field. If your file has only one column with email addresses, it typically maps automatically.
- Select the group to add these subscribers to.
- Choose how to handle existing subscribers:
- Update existing subscribers adds the group membership to subscribers already in your account.
- Most imports simply add new subscribers and update existing ones automatically.
- Agree to MailerLite's terms regarding consent and list quality.
- Review and start the import.
- MailerLite processes the file. It may take a few minutes for large lists. An import report shows how many subscribers were added, updated and skipped.
After Import
Review the import report
MailerLite's import report shows how many addresses were accepted, how many were rejected (invalid format, duplicates, blocklisted) and any issues found. Review rejected addresses to understand why they were skipped.
Decide on automations
Check whether any existing automations are triggered by group subscription. If so, imported subscribers may enter those automations. Adjust triggers if you want to exclude imported subscribers from certain workflows.
Send a welcome or re-engagement email
If the imported subscribers have not heard from you recently, send an introduction or re-engagement email. Explain who you are and why you are emailing. Include a clear unsubscribe link.
Monitor deliverability
After your first campaign to imported subscribers, check MailerLite's analytics for open rate, bounce rate, spam complaints and unsubscribes. If metrics are significantly worse than your usual campaigns, review the list quality.
Use segments
MailerLite supports segments (dynamic groups based on conditions). You can create a segment for subscribers who were added on a specific date or who belong to the import group. This helps you manage and evaluate imported subscribers separately from organic ones.
Things to Know
MailerLite's import validation
MailerLite validates imported email addresses and may reject addresses it considers invalid, disposable, role-based or risky. This is stricter than some other platforms. If many addresses are rejected, the import report explains why.
Account approval
New MailerLite accounts or accounts importing large lists may need approval. MailerLite reviews lists to ensure compliance with their terms. Provide information about how the contacts were collected if asked.
Subscriber pricing
MailerLite charges based on the number of subscribers. Importing a large list increases your subscriber count and may affect your billing tier. Active and unsubscribed subscribers may both count toward the total, depending on your plan. Review your plan limits before importing.
Duplicate handling
MailerLite uses email address as the unique identifier. If an imported email address already exists in your account, the subscriber is updated (added to the new group) rather than creating a duplicate.
Unsubscribed subscribers
If an email address was previously in your MailerLite account and the subscriber unsubscribed, importing that address again does not re-subscribe them. MailerLite respects unsubscribe status. These addresses are counted as skipped in the import report.
Groups vs segments
Groups are static collections of subscribers (a subscriber is manually or import-added to a group). Segments are dynamic collections based on rules (e.g., "opened a campaign in the last 30 days"). For imported subscribers, add them to a group (required for sending) and use segments for targeting.
No automatic enrichment
MailerLite does not automatically look up names, companies or other details for imported email addresses. If you import email addresses only, the subscriber records will show an email address and no other information.
