How to Import Extracted Emails into GetResponse
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Import into GetResponse?
After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into GetResponse for newsletters, autoresponders, marketing automation, landing pages or webinars. GetResponse is an email marketing and online marketing platform that serves businesses of all sizes.
Importing an extracted email list into GetResponse lets you add contacts to lists, set up autoresponder sequences, create segments, send campaigns and use marketing automation workflows.
Before You Import
Prepare the file
Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. GetResponse accepts CSV, TXT and XLS file imports. Email is the only required field.
- Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
- Download the results as CSV.
- The CSV contains one email address per row. This is ready for GetResponse import.
If you have names or other data in a separate file and want to include them, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing.
Choose or create a list
GetResponse organises contacts into lists. Before importing, decide which list to add contacts to. You can use an existing list or create a new one. Creating a dedicated list (e.g., "Imported contacts - Oct 2026") helps track the origin of imported contacts and keeps them separate for performance evaluation.
Consider verification
If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. High bounce rates from imported contacts can damage your sender reputation and may cause GetResponse to restrict your account. GetResponse also runs its own hygiene checks during import and may reject addresses it considers risky. See Best email verification services.
How to Import
- Log in to GetResponse.
- Go to Contacts (or Lists).
- Click Add contacts (or Import).
- Choose Upload a file and select your CSV file.
- Select the list to import into.
- GetResponse shows a field mapping screen. Map the email column to the Email field. If your file has only email addresses, it typically maps automatically.
- Choose import settings:
- Add to cycle on day: If you have an autoresponder set up on the target list, choose whether imported contacts should enter the autoresponder and on which day.
- If you do not want imported contacts to receive autoresponder messages, select the option to skip the autoresponder cycle.
- Confirm that you have consent to email these contacts.
- Review and start the import.
- GetResponse processes the file and shows an import summary with counts of added, updated and rejected contacts.
After Import
Review the import summary
GetResponse's import report shows how many contacts were added, how many already existed, and how many were rejected. Common rejection reasons include invalid format, previously unsubscribed, duplicate and blocklisted. Review the numbers to understand list quality.
Check autoresponder settings
If the target list has an autoresponder sequence, imported contacts may begin receiving autoresponder messages. If you do not want this, adjust the autoresponder settings or move imported contacts to a list without active autoresponders.
Send a campaign
Before sending a full campaign to imported contacts, consider sending a small test batch first. Monitor bounce rate, open rate and spam complaints. If metrics are poor, review the list quality before continuing.
Set up segments
GetResponse supports segments based on contact properties, engagement and behaviour. Create a segment for recently imported contacts so you can evaluate their performance separately from organically grown subscribers.
Use marketing automation
GetResponse's marketing automation workflows can be triggered by list membership, tags or contact properties. Set up a workflow to welcome imported contacts, tag them based on engagement, or move them between lists based on their behaviour.
Things to Know
GetResponse list hygiene
GetResponse applies automatic list hygiene during import. It checks for invalid formats, known disposable domains, spam traps and previously bounced addresses. Contacts that fail these checks are rejected. This is more aggressive than some other platforms, which means your import count may be lower than the number of email addresses in your file.
Account verification
GetResponse may review your account if you import a large list, especially on newer accounts. They may ask how the contacts were collected and may temporarily restrict sending until the review is complete.
Pricing
GetResponse charges based on the number of contacts (list size). Importing a large list increases your contact count and may move you to a higher billing tier. Contacts on multiple lists are counted once.
Duplicate handling
GetResponse uses email address as the unique identifier across all lists. If a contact already exists on the same list, they are updated. If they exist on a different list, they are added to the new list without creating a duplicate record.
Unsubscribed contacts
If an email address was previously in your GetResponse account and the contact unsubscribed, importing that address again does not re-subscribe them. GetResponse respects unsubscribe status. These contacts are skipped during import.
Removed (deleted) contacts
Contacts you previously deleted from GetResponse may be re-imported. However, contacts who were removed due to bouncing or complaint may be blocked from re-import.
Autoresponder day setting
When importing into a list with an autoresponder, the "add to cycle on day" setting determines where in the autoresponder sequence imported contacts start. Day 0 means they start at the beginning. You can also choose not to add them to the cycle at all.
Custom fields
GetResponse supports custom fields for contacts. During import, you can map CSV columns to custom fields. Since Email Extractor produces email addresses only, custom fields will be empty unless you add additional data columns to the CSV before importing.
