How to Import Extracted Emails into Omnisend

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Import into Omnisend?

After extracting email addresses from files using Email Extractor, you may want to bring them into Omnisend for ecommerce email and SMS marketing. Omnisend is a marketing automation platform built for ecommerce businesses. It integrates with Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix and other ecommerce platforms, and provides email campaigns, SMS campaigns, push notifications, pre-built automations, segmentation and product recommendation features.

Importing an extracted email list into Omnisend lets you add contacts, tag them, send campaigns and enroll them in automation workflows.

Before You Import

Prepare the file

Email Extractor produces a file with email addresses only. Omnisend accepts CSV imports. Email is the only required field for contact creation.

  1. Extract email addresses using Email Extractor at bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Download the results as CSV.
  3. The CSV contains one email address per row. This is ready for Omnisend import.

If you have names, phone numbers or other data in a separate file and want to include them, combine the files in a spreadsheet application before importing.

Consider verification

If the extracted emails come from old files or uncertain sources, verify the list before importing. Omnisend monitors sender reputation and may restrict your account if bounce rates are high. See Best email verification services.

How to Import

  1. Log in to Omnisend.
  2. Go to Audience > Contacts.
  3. Click Import contacts (or Add contacts).
  4. Choose Upload a file and select your CSV file.
  5. Omnisend shows a field mapping screen. Map the email column to the Email field.
  6. Optionally assign a tag to the imported contacts.
  7. Choose the consent status. Select Non-subscribed if the contacts have not explicitly opted in to marketing from your Omnisend account.
  8. Review the import preview.
  9. Start the import.
  10. Omnisend processes the file and shows a summary with counts of contacts created, updated and skipped.

After Import

Review the import summary

Omnisend reports how many contacts were created, how many already existed and how many were skipped. Review the numbers to understand import quality.

Set up segmentation

Omnisend's segmentation lets you create dynamic groups based on tags, behaviour, purchase history, engagement and other criteria. Create a segment for imported contacts (e.g., "Imported October 2026") to track their engagement separately.

Consider a re-engagement flow

If the imported contacts are from older data, consider sending a re-engagement campaign before adding them to regular marketing. This helps establish engagement and protects deliverability.

Send a campaign

Before sending a full campaign to imported contacts, test with a small segment first. Monitor open rate, click rate, bounce rate and unsubscribes.

Check automation triggers

Omnisend automations can trigger on contact creation, tag assignment or other events. Review your automation triggers to ensure imported contacts enter the appropriate workflows.

Things to Know

Contact-centric model

Omnisend uses a contact-centric model. Each email address corresponds to one contact record. Importing an email address that already exists in Omnisend updates that contact rather than creating a duplicate.

Consent statuses

Omnisend has three consent statuses: subscribed, non-subscribed and unsubscribed. Imported contacts are typically added as non-subscribed unless you specify otherwise. Non-subscribed contacts can receive transactional emails and some automations but not marketing campaigns on all plans.

Unsubscribes are permanent

If a contact previously unsubscribed from your Omnisend account, importing their email address again does not re-subscribe them. Omnisend respects previous consent decisions.

Pricing

Omnisend's pricing is based on the number of contacts you can email. Importing contacts increases your billable contact count and may move you to a higher tier.

No enrichment

Omnisend does not automatically look up names, companies or purchase history for imported email addresses. Imported contacts start with only the data you provide. They begin accumulating ecommerce data when they interact with your store while being tracked by Omnisend.

Ecommerce data

Omnisend's segmentation and automation features rely heavily on ecommerce data (purchase history, browse behaviour, cart activity). Imported contacts without store interaction history will not qualify for segments based on purchase behaviour until they engage with your store.

Tags

Use tags to organise and identify imported contacts. Tags in Omnisend are permanent labels that help with segmentation and targeting.

SMS

Omnisend supports SMS marketing alongside email. SMS requires a phone number and separate consent. Email-only imports do not enable SMS marketing for those contacts.
