How to Extract Emails from a Drip Export
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Drip?
Drip is an email and SMS marketing automation platform designed for ecommerce businesses. It integrates with Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and other ecommerce platforms to sync customer data and power automated marketing workflows. Drip stores subscriber records that include email addresses, tags, custom fields, lifecycle stages, purchase data, website activity and engagement metrics.
Extracting email addresses from Drip data is useful in several scenarios.
Migrating to another platform. When switching from Drip to a different email or marketing automation platform, a clean email list serves as a migration starting point or a verification reference.
Consolidating contacts. If you use Drip alongside a CRM, a help desk, or a separate tool for non-ecommerce contacts, extracting from each and deduplicating shows your total unique email-address count.
This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.
Comparing with ecommerce data. You may want to check whether all store customers are in Drip, or whether Drip contains subscribers who have never purchased.
Preparing for plan changes. Drip charges based on subscriber count. Exporting and extracting gives you an independent count of unique email addresses for comparison with Drip's billing total.
How to Export from Drip
Drip allows you to export subscribers from your account.
Exporting all subscribers
- Log in to Drip.
- Go to People (or Subscribers, depending on your interface version).
- Click Export (or find the export option in the actions menu).
- Choose which subscribers to export: all people, or filtered by tag, segment, status or other criteria.
- Select CSV as the format.
- Drip generates the export file. For large accounts, this may take a few minutes and Drip will email you when the file is ready.
- Download the CSV file.
Exporting a segment or tag
- Go to People and apply a segment filter or tag filter.
- Export the filtered result.
Export fields
Drip subscriber exports can include: email address, first name, last name, status (active, unsubscribed, undeliverable), tags, custom fields, subscriber created date, lifetime value, number of purchases, last purchase date and other ecommerce-related fields. The specific columns depend on your Drip account configuration and connected integrations.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the CSV file (or files, if you made multiple exports). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which export file each address came from.
Working with the Results
Compare with your ecommerce platform
Upload your Drip export alongside a customer export from Shopify or WooCommerce. Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership. This helps identify sync gaps.
Separate buyers from non-buyers
If Drip tags subscribers who have purchased versus those who have not, export by tag and upload both files. The CSV with sources download distinguishes buyer addresses from subscriber-only addresses, helping you build targeted lists.
Combine with other marketing tools
If you use Drip alongside other tools (a pop-up service, a review platform, a loyalty programme), export from each and extract together. Deduplication shows your total unique email-address count across all customer-facing platforms.
Verify before migration
Ecommerce subscriber lists accumulate inactive addresses. Run the extracted list through a verification service before importing into a new platform. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Column headers are not extracted
CSV column headers from Drip are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.
Subscriber data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, tags, custom fields, purchase history, lifetime value and engagement data from the Drip export are not carried over. If you need those fields, import the original CSV directly.
Unsubscribed and undeliverable subscribers
Drip tracks subscriber status: active, unsubscribed and undeliverable. Depending on your export filter, non-active subscribers may be included. Do not re-subscribe these contacts on another platform. Check the status column in the original export.
Drip's people-centric model
Drip uses a people-centric model (no separate lists). Each subscriber exists once in your account with tags and custom fields to segment them. This means your Drip subscriber count is already a unique count. Extraction is still useful when combining Drip data with other sources.
Workflow and automation state
Drip supports complex automation workflows. A subscriber's position in a workflow (which step they have reached, which triggers have fired) is not included in the CSV export. If migrating, you will need to recreate automations and handle in-progress workflows on the new platform.
