How to Extract Emails from Olark Contacts

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Olark?

Olark is a live chat platform for websites. It provides a customisable chat widget, automated messages, pre-chat forms, visitor insights, chat transcripts, team management, reporting and integrations with CRMs and help desk tools. Olark focuses on simplicity and is used by small to mid-size businesses for sales and support conversations.

Olark stores data for visitors who have chatted, provided their email through the pre-chat form or been identified through integrations. Extracting email addresses from Olark data is useful for importing into a marketing platform, consolidating leads, deduplicating against other sources or creating a backup.

How to Export from Olark

Exporting transcripts

  1. Log in to Olark.
  2. Go to Transcripts.
  3. Filter transcripts by date range, operator, tag or other criteria.
  4. Export transcripts as CSV.
  5. The CSV includes visitor email, name, chat transcript, date, operator, tags and other fields.

Email reports

Olark can email chat transcripts and summary reports to specified email addresses. These emails contain visitor data including email addresses.

Integrations

Olark integrates with CRMs (Salesforce, HubSpot), help desks (Zendesk, Freshdesk) and other tools. If integrations are active, chat data and contact emails may already be in those systems.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file(s) exported from Olark. Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources.

Working with the Results

Import into a marketing platform

Olark is a chat tool, not a marketing platform. For email campaigns, import the extracted list into a dedicated email platform. Ensure you have consent for marketing communications.

Consolidate chat leads

If you use Olark alongside other lead capture tools (forms, landing pages, other chat tools), upload all exports together. Deduplication shows your total unique lead count.

Verify addresses

Pre-chat form entries can contain typos. Verification before outreach is recommended. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, chat transcripts, tags and other fields from the Olark export are not carried over.

Pre-chat forms

Olark can display a pre-chat survey asking for name and email before a chat begins. This is the primary source of email addresses in Olark.

Anonymous visitors

Visitors who chat without providing an email remain anonymous. They will not appear in extraction results.

Automated messages

Olark supports automated messages (targeted chat rules) that trigger based on visitor behaviour. These do not capture emails unless the visitor responds and provides one.

Visitor insights

Olark shows visitor data (pages viewed, location, referral source) during chat. This data does not include email addresses unless the visitor provides one.

CRM integrations

Olark integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM and other CRMs to push chat data and contact information. If integration is active, emails may already be in your CRM.

Accessibility

Olark emphasises accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA) for its chat widget. This does not affect data export functionality.
