Best Newsletter Platforms for Extracting Subscriber Emails

On this page

Why Newsletter Platforms Store Subscriber Emails

Newsletter platforms are built around email. Every subscriber provides an email address to receive content. These platforms accumulate subscriber lists that represent engaged audiences interested in specific topics, creators or brands. Extracting subscriber emails is useful for migrating to a different platform, creating a backup, importing into a CRM, consolidating audiences across platforms or running campaigns through a separate email marketing tool.

Substack

Substack is a newsletter and publishing platform used by independent writers, journalists and creators. It provides free and paid newsletters, a website, community features, podcasts and a recommendation network.

How to extract: Export subscribers from Settings, then upload to Email Extractor. See Extract Emails from Substack Export.

Beehiiv

Beehiiv is a newsletter platform built for growth. It provides monetization, referral programs, SEO-optimized web pages, ad networks, automations and analytics.

How to Extract from Any Newsletter Platform

The process is the same across platforms:

  1. Export subscribers from the platform as CSV.
  2. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  3. Select "Text and files."
  4. Upload the file (or files from multiple platforms). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  5. Click "Extract emails."
  6. Review the results. Duplicates across all files are removed automatically.
  7. Download as TXT, CSV, or CSV with sources.

Consolidating Across Platforms

Creators and media companies often run newsletters on multiple platforms (a Substack for long-form writing, a Beehiiv for a growth-focused newsletter, a Kit for course marketing). Export subscribers from each and upload together. Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership.

After Extraction

Migrate to a new platform

Extract subscribers to import into a different newsletter or email marketing platform when switching.

Build a backup

Newsletter subscriber lists are valuable assets. Regular exports protect against account issues, platform changes or accidental deletions.

Import into a CRM

Import subscriber emails into HubSpot, Pipedrive or another CRM to connect newsletter engagement with sales and marketing data.

Verify addresses

Newsletter subscriber lists can include abandoned email addresses, especially from older sign-ups. Verification before migration or campaigns is recommended. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Free vs. paid subscribers

Most newsletter platforms distinguish between free and paid subscribers. The export typically includes both, with a column indicating subscription type.

Unsubscribed contacts

Some platforms include unsubscribed contacts in the export. Filter or review before importing into another tool.

Newsletter platforms vs. email marketing platforms

Newsletter platforms focus on publishing and content delivery. Email marketing platforms focus on campaigns, automation and segmentation. Many tools blend both, and some are covered in Best Email Marketing Platforms for Extracted Lists.
