How to Extract Emails from a Benchmark Email Export
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Benchmark Email?
Benchmark Email is an email marketing platform that offers email campaigns, automation, landing pages, surveys and subscriber management. It is used by small and mid-sized businesses for newsletter distribution, drip campaigns and lead nurturing. Benchmark stores contact records that include email addresses, names, custom fields and engagement data.
Extracting email addresses from Benchmark Email data is useful in several scenarios.
Migrating to another platform. When switching from Benchmark Email to a different email marketing service (Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Kit, Brevo), a clean email list provides a starting point for the new platform.
Consolidating contacts. If you use Benchmark Email alongside other tools (a CRM, a form builder, an ecommerce platform), extracting from each and deduplicating reveals your total unique email-address count.
This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.
Backing up your list. Having an independent copy of your subscriber email addresses outside of Benchmark Email protects against accidental deletion or account issues.
Comparing lists. Extracting from Benchmark Email and another platform shows which contacts exist in both systems, helping you identify gaps or sync issues.
How to Export from Benchmark Email
Benchmark Email allows you to export contacts from your contact lists.
Exporting a contact list
- Log in to Benchmark Email.
- Go to Contacts (or Contact Lists).
- Select the contact list you want to export.
- Click Export (or the export/download option).
- Choose CSV as the format.
- Download the file.
Exporting all contacts
You can also export all contacts across all lists, depending on the export options available in your Benchmark Email account.
Export fields
Benchmark Email exports can include: email address, first name, last name, middle name, custom fields, subscription date, status and other contact properties. The exact columns depend on your list configuration.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the CSV file (or files, if you exported from multiple contact lists). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which contact list export each address came from.
Working with the Results
Compare contact lists
If you maintain multiple contact lists in Benchmark Email, export each and upload all files. Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership.
Migrate to a new platform
Import the extracted list into your new email marketing platform. Since Email Extractor outputs email addresses only, subscriber names and custom fields will not carry over. Use the original Benchmark Email CSV for those fields.
Combine with website form data
If you use Benchmark Email's landing pages and forms alongside other form builders, export from both sources and extract together. Deduplication shows your total unique lead count.
Verify before migrating
Run the extracted list through a verification service before importing into a new platform, especially if the list has been growing for a long period. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Column headers are not extracted
CSV column headers from Benchmark Email are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.
Subscriber data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, custom fields, subscription dates and engagement data from the Benchmark Email export are not carried over. If you need those fields in a new platform, import the original CSV directly.
Unsubscribed contacts
Depending on your export settings, Benchmark Email may include unsubscribed contacts in the export. These addresses will appear in the extracted results. Do not re-subscribe these contacts on another platform. Check the status column in the original export.
Free plan limits
Benchmark Email offers a free plan with limited sends and features. The contact export feature is available on all plans. If you are on the free plan and evaluating other options, extracting gives you a portable list to take to any platform.
Survey and poll respondents
Benchmark Email offers surveys and polls. Respondents to these may or may not be in your contact lists. Survey response exports are separate from contact list exports and may need to be downloaded from the surveys section.
