How to Extract Emails from a Moosend Export
On this page
Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.
Why Extract from Moosend?
Moosend is an email marketing and automation platform used by businesses of various sizes for email campaigns, newsletters, marketing automation, landing pages and subscription forms. It stores subscriber records that include email addresses, names, custom fields and engagement data. Moosend was acquired by Sitecore and is now part of the Sitecore suite, though it continues to operate as a standalone email marketing platform.
Extracting email addresses from Moosend data is useful in several scenarios.
Migrating to another platform. When switching from Moosend to a different email marketing service, a clean email list provides a starting point for the new platform or a cross-reference to confirm that all subscribers transferred correctly.
Consolidating across mailing lists. Moosend organises subscribers into mailing lists. If you have multiple lists (one per product, audience or campaign type), extracting from all lists and deduplicating reveals your total unique email-address count.
This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.
Comparing with other systems. You may want to check which Moosend subscribers exist in your CRM, which are missing from your ecommerce platform, or which contacts in other tools are not receiving Moosend campaigns.
Backing up contacts. Before changing plans, restructuring lists or transitioning platforms, extracting all email addresses ensures you have an independent copy of every subscriber's address.
How to Export from Moosend
Moosend allows you to export subscribers from each mailing list.
Exporting a mailing list
- Log in to Moosend.
- Go to Mailing Lists (or Email Lists depending on your interface version).
- Select the mailing list you want to export.
- Click the Export option (or find it in the list's actions menu).
- Choose the export format. Moosend offers CSV and Excel (XLSX) exports.
- Select which fields to include. Email is always included.
- Choose whether to export all subscribers or filter by status (active, unsubscribed, bounced, removed).
- Download the file.
Repeat for each mailing list you want to extract from.
Exporting a segment
If you have created segments within a mailing list (based on engagement, location, custom fields, etc.):
- Open the mailing list.
- Navigate to the segment.
- Export the segment if the export option is available from the segment view.
- Otherwise, export the full list and filter in a spreadsheet application.
Export fields
Moosend subscriber exports can include: email address, name, date subscribed, subscriber status, custom fields and engagement data. The exact columns depend on which custom fields are defined on your mailing list and which fields you select during export.
How to Extract the Email Addresses
- Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
- Select "Text and files."
- Upload the CSV or XLSX file (or files, if you exported from multiple mailing lists). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
- Click "Extract emails."
- Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
- Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which export file each address came from.
Working with the Results
Count unique subscribers across lists
Moosend counts subscribers per mailing list. A subscriber on three lists counts three times toward your plan limit. Exporting from all lists and extracting with Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership.
Compare with your website platform
Upload your Moosend export alongside a customer export from your ecommerce platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento) or website builder (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix). Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership.
Combine with landing page leads
If you use Moosend's landing page builder alongside external landing page tools (Unbounce, Leadpages, Carrd), leads from external pages may not sync automatically to Moosend. Exporting from all sources and extracting together captures every lead.
Verify before importing elsewhere
If your Moosend account has been active for a long time, some subscriber addresses may no longer be valid. Run the extracted list through an email verification service before importing into a new platform. See Best email verification services.
Things to Know
Column headers are not extracted
CSV and XLSX column headers from Moosend are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.
Subscriber data is not preserved
Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, custom fields, subscription dates and engagement metrics from the Moosend export are not carried over. If you need those fields in your new platform, import the original file directly.
Unsubscribed and bounced subscribers
Depending on your export settings, the file may include subscribers with statuses other than active (unsubscribed, bounced, removed). These addresses will appear in the extracted results. Do not re-subscribe these contacts on another platform. Check the status column in the original export to distinguish active from inactive subscribers.
Automation workflow state
Moosend supports marketing automation workflows. A subscriber's position in an automation (which step they are on, which conditions have been met) is not included in the CSV export. If you are migrating, you will need to re-create automations on the new platform and decide how to handle subscribers who were mid-workflow.
Moosend and Sitecore
Since Moosend's acquisition by Sitecore, some enterprise accounts may access Moosend through the Sitecore platform. The export process for subscriber lists remains the same regardless of how you access Moosend. If you use the broader Sitecore suite, contacts may also exist in Sitecore's experience platform (XP), which is a separate system from Moosend's mailing lists.
