How to Extract Emails from a Mailjet Export

On this page

Export and import options vary by plan, permissions and product version. Check the platform’s current help documentation if a menu or format differs. Use only contact data you are authorized to process; an extracted address is not proof of marketing consent.

Why Extract from Mailjet?

Mailjet is an email platform that handles both marketing emails and transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets, notifications). It offers contact management, email campaigns, automation workflows, A/B testing and an email API. Mailjet stores contact records that include email addresses, names, subscription status, contact properties and engagement data.

Extracting email addresses from Mailjet data is useful in several scenarios.

Migrating to another platform. When switching from Mailjet to a different email service (Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Brevo, SendGrid), a clean email list provides a starting point for the new platform.

Separating marketing from transactional contacts. Mailjet handles both types of email. Extracting your marketing contact list separately helps you evaluate it independently from your transactional sending.

Consolidating contacts. If you use Mailjet alongside other tools (a CRM, a form builder, a newsletter platform), extracting from each and deduplicating reveals your total unique email-address count.

This counts distinct email strings using case-insensitive matching, not distinct people. One person may have multiple addresses, and shared addresses may represent several people.

Backing up your list. Having an independent copy of your contact email addresses outside of Mailjet protects against accidental deletion, account issues or plan changes.

How to Export from Mailjet

Mailjet allows you to export contacts from your contact lists.

Exporting a contact list

  1. Log in to Mailjet.
  2. Go to Contacts (or Contact Lists).
  3. Select the contact list you want to export.
  4. Click Export (or the export/download button).
  5. Choose CSV as the format.
  6. Download the file.

Exporting all contacts

  1. Go to Contacts and select the "All Contacts" view (if available).
  2. Click Export.
  3. Download the CSV.

Export fields

Mailjet exports can include: email address, name, subscription status (subscribed, unsubscribed), contact properties (custom fields you have defined), creation date and last activity date. The exact columns depend on your Mailjet configuration and which properties you have set up.

How to Extract the Email Addresses

  1. Go to bulkemailextractor.com.
  2. Select "Text and files."
  3. Upload the CSV file (or files, if you exported from multiple contact lists). Up to 25 MB per file, 100 MB per batch.
  4. Click "Extract emails."
  5. Review the results. Duplicates are removed automatically.
  6. Download as TXT for a plain list, CSV for a single-column spreadsheet, or CSV with sources to see which contact list export each address came from.

Working with the Results

Compare contact lists

If you maintain multiple contact lists in Mailjet (e.g., "Newsletter," "Product updates," "Event attendees"), export each and upload all files. Deduplication creates a combined list of unique email addresses. Download CSV with sources and compare the source names to find addresses shared by the exports. Confirm subscription or membership status in the original records; matching addresses alone do not establish a current active membership.

Combine with transactional data

If you use Mailjet's transactional email API, your transactional recipients may not be in your marketing contact lists. Depending on your Mailjet setup, you may need to use the API to retrieve transactional recipients separately. The marketing contact export covers your campaign contacts.

Prepare for migration

When migrating from Mailjet to another email service, extract from all contact lists first. The deduplicated list gives you a baseline contact count to verify against after importing into the new platform.

Verify addresses

Run the extracted list through a verification service before importing into a new platform, especially if the list has been growing for a long time. See Best email verification services.

Things to Know

Column headers are not extracted

CSV column headers from Mailjet are text, not email addresses, so they do not appear in the extracted results.

Contact data is not preserved

Email Extractor outputs email addresses only. Names, contact properties, subscription status, engagement data and other metadata from the Mailjet export are not carried over. If you need those fields, import the original CSV directly.

Unsubscribed contacts

Depending on your export settings, Mailjet may include unsubscribed contacts in the export. These addresses will appear in the extracted results. Do not re-subscribe these contacts on another platform. Check the status column in the original export.

Marketing vs transactional

Mailjet separates marketing and transactional email sending. Contact list exports cover marketing contacts. Transactional email recipients (people who received order confirmations, password resets, etc.) are managed differently and may not appear in a contact list export.

Mailjet and Sinch

Mailjet is owned by Sinch (formerly Mailgun parent company). If you also use Mailgun or other Sinch products, be aware that contact lists are managed separately in each product.

Contact list limits

Mailjet has contact limits that vary by plan. Extraction gives an independent count of matched email strings, which may differ from Mailjet’s billable contacts. Check the platform’s own usage records for plan limits.
